National Museum of Wales - Holographic Artefacts

Project

View Holographics was commissioned to create holograms of a number of historic artefacts owned by the National Museum of Wales. These artefacts, normally stored under lock and key in Cardiff, were all found at the site of the Valle Crucis Abbey in Llangollen.

Valle Crucis was set to open to the public as was an exhibition about the Abbey. The artefacts were deemed too valuable and too susceptible to the elements to feature in the exhibition. View Holographics were able to overcome these obstacles by creating holographic images of the artefacts; one large digital hologram of a Morus Head, a particularly important piece of the Abbey’s architecture and several analogue holograms of artefacts found on the site.

The Museum was very pleased with the results and say they will be commissioning further holograms in the future. View Holographics would be delighted to talk to any other museum or historical institution for whom creating holographic images of historical artefacts could be beneficial.

David Crane of the Llangollen Museum said, “"The holograms are full colour - you'd swear blind the artefacts were there."

Stewart Jones, CEO of View Holographics added, “There is another value-add to creating holograms of historical artefacts. Often these objects are unique but cannot be shipped around the world due to prohibitive insurance premiums. Holograms allow more people to study and enjoy these artefacts.”
